Travel Tips to Dubai

7 September 2015

It’s true that even Emiratis joke about the summer heat in Dubai, but there are still lots of indoor and water activities awaiting you! Not to mention Dubai has 9 months of beautiful weather - From Winter to Spring! The best time to visit Dubai is from October to April. Whether your trip is for business or pleasure, here’s some of my guide to making your visit stress-free and enjoyable with these insider tips of things to do/ things to know BEFORE you leave home. It’s always helpful to have everything you need in one place and be prepared before the holiday.

FLIGHT
Dubai, a seven-hour flight from the Malaysia.

TIME DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MALAYSIA AND DUBAI.

Malaysia is 4 hours ahead of Dubai - United Arab Emirates (UAE) -4 KL | +4 GMT

CURRENCY EXCHANGE

The local currency in Dubai is the United Arab Emirate Dirham (AED). It is advisable to change your money before you go to avoid hassle. As usual, I got my money exchange at Midvalley Money Changer because they have the best exchange rate in town. ( RM100 = 113 Dirham )You can check their daily rate at - http://www.exchangerate.my/currency-exchange-rates/Mid-Valley-Money-Changer

SUNSCREEN
The sun can be fierce throughout the year. Always remember your sunglasses, hats and high factor sun creams (SPF 40 and above) are essential. This is the sunscreen that i have brought along. One is for my face and one is for my body.

CLOTHING
I know right, this is what most of the people concern about when thinking of traveling Dubai. Most of the Arabian dress conservatively in most public areas, including the malls. Here's some of my #OOTD
But no worries, Shorts and t-shirts are common in many areas, ONLY when visiting mosques, religious sites, or older parts of the city, wear something more appropriate. Swimwear is acceptable at the beach or around the swimming pool, but not in other public places. (Tips : Bring along a scarf , Women are usually required to wear a headscarf only in the mosques)

ADAPTER

You can bring extra universal adapter if you want. But it is not really necessary because the UAE has 3 pin sockets like the UK and Malaysia.

DUBAI SIM CARD
A Dubai SIM card can be purchased from Dubai airport after immigration. Passports are required in order to purchase a Dubai sim card and telephone number.

The price for a sim card is around 50AED, you can top up for internet excess.

HOW TO ENJOY DUBAI DURING RAMADAN MONTH
The month of Ramadan is considered the most sacred month in the Islamic calendar. Residents and visitors have to refrain from eating or drinking in public areas. Non-Muslims may eat and drink in designated areas, and many hotels and shopping malls have restaurants that remain open during Ramadan. (this applies to everyone, with the exception of children). You can check out more information here http://www.visitdubai.com/en/articles/ramadan-etiquette

Most importantly, visit Dubai with an open mind, embrace the culutre and heritage of this magnificient city and enjoy every moment of it. Trust me, you will love this place.
